There’s something so special about August in Portland, Oregon. Even as the summer begins sneaking towards its end and the first day of school begins to approach, something about this sweet month reminds us to slow down and truly enjoy the sunshine, the freedom, and all the opportunities for play that we still have.

The last hooray before summer begins drawing to a close and the school year stealthily approaches, August in Portland is filled with movies under the stars, amazing seasonal produce, and plenty of music opportunities for the whole family to enjoy before school starts!

  • Hoping to beat the heat with a hike outside the city? Take the family out to Wahclella Falls in the Columbia Gorge for a cooler hike among the trees or to Dry Creek Falls for a beautiful waterfall cresting between lava deposits. For a hike with the option to take a dip at the end, check out Moulton Falls, a hike that takes you past 3-4 different waterfalls depending on the trail you take. Plan on getting to the trailheads very early in the morning to avoid both crowds and hot weather!
  • If you’re on the hunt for juicy summer produce, cooking demonstrations, live music, and lots of local eats, make your way down to the Pearl District Culinary Farmers Market on NW 13th every Sunday through September!
  • A staple of Portland summers for more than 20 years, the Soapbox Derby at Mt. Tabor on Saturday August 15th pits teams of grown-up kids in a race, with each team designing and assembling their own downhill human-powered racers. Come for the big laughs and amazing atmosphere!
  • Excited for family movie night but don’t want to miss a gorgeous summer evening? Bring it outdoors! Catch flicks like “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Wicked” in parks across Portland through the city’s Summer Free For All programming. Or make your way out to the 99W Drive-In Theater in Newberg to catch double features like “Spider-Man: A Brand New Day” and “Toy Story 5” while enjoying a balmy summer evening.
  • A day spent at the Oregon Zoo is a Portland summer highlight, so why not extend it through the evening with a Friday night concert? Spread a blanket out on the amphitheater lawn to enjoy live music and kid-friendly activities with ZooNights through the end of August!
  • If you’re looking for an opportunity to get active with the whole family, registration for Bridge Pedal on Sunday August 9th is still open! Join your Portland community in a group ride (or walk!) over the Willamette River Bridges – including the beautiful upper decks of the Fremont and Marquam bridges. Kids ride for free!

Thorough Preparation

After carefully masking off floors or areas not to be painted, walls and ceilings will have holes patched, small cracks caulked and primed before painting. Trim work will be de-glossed, sanded and vacuumed prior to painting so that the new paint will adhere firmly.

Careful Clean-Up
Your Crew Leader will ensure that the project area is left clean at the end of each workday. When the project is complete, you will have a final walk-through with your Crew Leader to make sure that everything has been completed and cleaned up to your satisfaction.
