Why Paint Your Kitchen?

Your kitchen is one of the most loved and regularly-used spaces in your home, and over time, that shows. Between daily cooking, increased moisture, and constant activity, the cabinets, walls, and trim can lose their luster. A professional kitchen repaint not only restores beauty and brightness but also adds long-term protection and value to your home.

At Weinmann Painting, we offer expert help to refresh:

  • Cabinets
  • Walls
  • Ceilings
  • Doors, Windows, and other Trim work

We utilize durable finishes that resist stains, moisture, and wear while instantly brightening the space. Expert preparation and precise application ensure a flawless, long-lasting finish. This is especially important for older or historic Portland homes, where that extra TLC can make all the difference in protecting the unique and delicate elements of your kitchen.

When refinishing your kitchen, it’s equally important to work with a painting company you trust. We focus on:

  • Professional preparation and high-grade materials
  • Minimizing disruption to your daily life by having the appropriate size team onsite to complete your project efficiently
  • Treating your home with the utmost care and respect

A freshly painted kitchen can also enhance your home’s resale value and overall appeal. Buyers are naturally drawn to clean, updated spaces that feel well cared for and inviting. And because the kitchen is such a focal point, these improvements often make the biggest impact on the look and feel of your home.

Color choices for your kitchen

Choosing the right paint color for your kitchen can completely change how the space feels. Whether you’re drawn to warm, clean neutrals or bold, modern tones, your color selections can help to set the mood of the room and define the personality of your home. Popular color choices for kitchen often include:

  • Classic whites
  • Cool grays
  • Bold navy blues
  • Brightening sage greens
  • Joyful yellows
  • Warm coffee hues
  • Playful reds and oranges

Because color and lighting work hand in hand, it’s important to also consider how natural light, fixtures, and finishes feel throughout the day. Lighter hues, like a buttery yellow or misty green, can make smaller spaces feel open and airy, while deeper shades, such as a bold emerald or confident red, can add sophistication and warmth in well-lit spaces. Neutral and light-colored walls can partner beautifully with deep cabinet colors, while a funky pop of orange or green on a backsplash or island can add instant personality to the room.

HELPFUL HINT!

It can be helpful to use the 60-30-10 rule when deciding on a palette you’ll love in the long-term.

    60

Opt for one color, such as a warm white or funky teal, to cover 60% of your kitchen surface (this is often the cabinets.)

    30

Choose a secondary hue, such as a light blue, for 30% of the rest – typically the walls and ceiling.

    10

Finally, choose a great accent color, such as a playful apricot, for the remaining 10% of the room, such as the island or or backsplash.

We know that choosing a color scheme for your kitchen can be both exciting and time-intensive, and we offer expert color guidance to help you find the perfect balance between your cabinetry, walls, and trim. Paint swatches, color matching, and color consultations are our way of ensuring your kitchen feels friendly, approachable, and stylish for years to come.

    Cabinet Painting & Refinishing

Your kitchen cabinets are one of the most visible and hardest working features in your home, and updating them can drastically change the look and feel of your space. Whether you choose to repaint or refinish, our options for cabinet painting services can help breathe new life in your kitchen and enhance the inviting atmosphere.

Cabinet painting is ideal if you’re looking for a bold transformation or more modern aesthetic. It offers endless color possibilities and is generally more cost-effective upfront than refinishing or replacing cabinets. Painted finishes do cover the natural wood grain and can require occasional touch-ups over time, especially in high-use areas. For lasting results, we like to use high-quality cabinet paints like durable acrylic latex or oil-based enamels in satin or semi-gloss finishes, as these offer superior resistance to moisture, stains, and everyday wear.

Cabinet refinishing celebrates the natural beauty and texture of the existing wood. This process involves carefully sanding down the surface to remove old finishes, repairing imperfections, and applying new stains or clear coatings to highlight the wood’s unique character. Refinishing tends to be more time-intensive, but it’s an excellent option if you have solid wood cabinetry and prefer a timeless, classic look that showcases craftsmanship and the warmth of the natural wood.

No matter your choice, quality preparation is key. Our Portland home painters ensure every surface is cleaned, prepped, and primed properly for a durable, lasting finish that not only looks stunning, but stands up to the test of time.

    Walls & Ceilings

In a kitchen, walls and ceilings often work the hardest, enduring heat, moisture, and the more-than-occasional splash or stain, all while helping to set the tone for your home’s most lived-in space. High-quality, washable paints designed specifically for kitchens and bathrooms are best for resisting stains and grease while maintaining their depth of color over time.

Your wall color will play a big role in your kitchen’s overall design and atmosphere.

    • Lighter neutrals can make a space feel more open, while deeper tones can add warmth and contrast.
    • Subtle undertones can also help to enhance natural materials like wood or stone, which can tie together cabinets, backsplashes, and countertops for a cohesive look and feel.

And don’t overlook the power of ceiling painting as a design element! A freshly painted ceiling can instantly brighten a room, reflecting more light and giving the space a cleaner, more polished feel. Some homeowners opt for a hint of color, such as a soft warm neutral, or a larger pop of color, such as a bold tie-in to the wall hue, for added depth and sophistication.

    Durability & Finishes

High-quality acrylic latex paints are a popular choice for kitchens because they offer excellent adhesion, flexibility, and easy cleanup. In areas prone to grease or steam, like behind stoves, near sinks, and around cabinets, specialized kitchen and bath paints provide extra resistance to stains, mildew, and humidity while maintaining rich, consistent color.

When it comes to paint finishes, each serves a specific purpose:

    • Matte or Eggshell finishes offer a soft, modern look that helps conceal minor imperfections. These are best suited for low-traffic walls or breakfast nooks that are slightly removed from heavy cooking areas.
    • Satin or Semi-Gloss finishes strike a balance between beauty and function. They’re durable, easy to wipe down, and ideal for most kitchen areas where moisture and smudges are common. Their subtle sheens reflect light and enhance a room’s brightness while standing up to frequent cleaning.

    From Our Clients

“I researched many painters before deciding on who would do interior painting for our Lake Oswego home. Weinmann’s bid was very competitive, they have great references, and the company is well established. All aspects of the project were handled with great care, precision, and efficiency. The painting crew was prompt, courteous and tidy in every regard. I’ve hired many painting companies throughout my years of moving around the country and Weinmann is among the very best! Thank you to the Weinmann team for a job well done!”

“Meets the Yelp five-star definition of “Woohoo! As good as it gets!”  They worked on painting and touching up the interior of our home to get ready to sell and did a great job. Not only was it technically excellent, but communication was very good, and the crew was very professional and very easy to deal with.  It may sound like a cliche, you can certainly find contractors at a lower price, but I doubt that you can find better quality.”

“Second time with Weinmann Painting crew. Absolutely a GREAT company! Kevin and Lori are so accessible, easy to work with and the crew they have are extremely good, very talented and very professional. This is by far the best paint crew we have ever had.”

    Gainor A.

“The Weinmann Painting crew were punctual, respectful, meticulous, and communicative. They estimated the job would take three days, and they were true to their word. We couldn’t be more pleased with the interior paint job our home received, and we are picky I might add.”

“This is the second time we have used Weinmann Painting for a whole house interior job. From the start, Lori and Kevin were easy to work with and excellent communicators. Lori was especially gracious and accommodating when our schedule took a hit from weather and contractor delays. Once the job started, Jaime and his crew were punctual and efficient, the communication was detailed and often, the job site left clean and tidy, and the resulting paint job beautifully executed. I highly recommend!

“We were most impressed from start to finish with the professionalism and excellent work of Weinmann Painting. The painters were always on time and were especially courteous as they accommodated a special need for access to the kitchen area, which they were painting. They were most gracious in helping to move furniture in a bedroom which they also painted. A special thank you to Israel and Miguel, the painters, for their courtesy, professionalism, and outstanding work! The Weinmann office staff were top notch professionals who responded promptly to every question we had. We love the results of our completed painting project and highly recommend Weinmann Painting.”

“Weinmann saved my holiday by coming in with a timely estimate and being willing to meet a quick deadline.  We had new carpet installed which made the walls look shabby in addition to the small areas that needed sheetrock/plaster patching.  We were leaving town, and everything was moved out of the rooms into our living area.  I really needed it put back together before we left. Poli’s crew patched walls and ceiling and finished painting with not a spec of paint on the new carpet – it looks so fresh and pretty.  THANKS Y’ALL!”

“Kevin and his crew did an amazing job on the inside of our home.  Jaime was willing to be flexible as I changed the paint selection a couple of times and he just rolled with it.  They were on time, efficient, tidy and took very good care of the furniture/floors etc.  We will continue to use Weinmann Painting for both inside and outside of our home.”

    Kitchen Painting FAQ’s

How long does kitchen painting take?

The timeline depends on the size of your kitchen and whether cabinets are included in the project, and if they will be painted or refinished. Our Crew Leader will provide a project timeline during your initial project walk-through so you know what to expect at each phase of the project.

Can I use my kitchen while it is being painted?

Generally, the kitchen will not be accessible during the project. In order to prevent the migration of dust and debris into the work area, and to give you the best finished product possible, the kitchen will be masked off until your project is complete. If you need dishes, glasses, or refrigerated items, be sure to remove them beforehand. An ice chest can be used for perishable items if needed, as the room may be taped off or covered with plastic to protect other areas of the home.

Do I need to empty my drawers and cabinets?

Yes, all drawers should be emptied so we can safely remove them for painting. Cabinets need not be emptied unless we are painting the interiors. Additionally, please clear countertops, walls, and any items, including furniture, that might be in the way of prep or painting.

Can you help me choose colors?

Absolutely! We offer detailed guidance on selecting paint colors that complement your cabinetry, countertops, backsplash, and overall kitchen design.

How do I choose between staining and painting my kitchen cabinets?
    • Painting offers a wide range of colors and a modern update, but it covers the natural wood grain and may require touch-ups.
    • Staining/refinishing highlights the wood’s natural beauty and is ideal for timeless, classic styles. We can help you decide based on your cabinets and design goals.
Can you replace cabinet hardware for me?

Yes, but we need to know before the project begins so we can plan accordingly. If the size or placement of hardware is going to be changed, additional patching and preparation will be needed prior to painting.

Can I keep the heat on in the kitchen during the project?

During prep, heaters and HVAC in the work area must be turned off and vents will be covered in plastic. After painting has been completed, your home’s heater should be turned on to help the finish cure properly.

Do you leave cabinet doors on when you paint them? If you remove them, where do you take them?

Whenever possible, cabinet doors and drawers are painted in place inside your home. If space is limited in your kitchen, doors may be painted in a designated room, garage, or off-site shop (additional cost may apply for off-site painting).

Do you spray or brush paint on the cabinets?

After thorough preparation of the surfaces, we spray cabinets with two coats of high-quality trim paint to achieve a smooth, professional look.
